Experiment Beyond Standard Material Proves To Be the Solution
An independent manufacturer, distributor and marketer of replacement parts for motor vehicles in the automotive aftermarket industry was seeking cost reductions on a project. An existing design for a tray, to hold a replacement fuel injection system, needed to provide critical protection for expensive contents. The delicate components, consisting of electrical and hydraulic functions, needed to rest securely in the tray to prevent jostling at any handling point from production to store shelf.
The strength of the tray was of utmost importance. Standard material used by StockCap for thermoformed parts is somewhat flexible and would not meet the main requirement of the tray. StockCap took action by testing high density polyethylene (HDPE) for the production of the tray and it was a success. The heavy gauge .055 HDPE material in conjunction with the contour of the given cavities created an excellent product protection shipping tray.
